Custom Cummins NT855 Remanufacture for Limerick Clean Energy Center
Melton Industries recently completed a custom zero-hour remanufacture of a Cummins NT855 diesel engine for a fire pump application at the Limerick Clean Energy Center, a nuclear power generation facility owned and operated by Constellation Energy.
The project presented a unique challenge. The existing Cummins NT855 was an older engine that required a comprehensive remanufacture while working within a very aggressive project schedule. With the engine supporting a fire pump application at a critical power generation facility, completing the project correctly and on time was essential.
A True Zero-Hour Remanufacture
Rather than simply repairing or rebuilding the engine, Melton Industries performed a zero-hour remanufacture, restoring the NT855 through our comprehensive remanufacturing process.
The engine was disassembled and evaluated, with major components undergoing cleaning, inspection, precision machining, and reconditioning as required. Replacement components were installed, the engine was professionally reassembled, and extensive dynamometer testing was performed to verify proper operation and performance.
Meeting a Critical Timeline
One of the biggest challenges of this project was the timeframe.
From the moment the engine arrived, our employees understood the importance of the schedule. Team members throughout production, parts, purchasing, machining, assembly, testing, quality, and project management worked together to keep the project moving.
When challenges arose, our team responded.
When components were needed, they were sourced.
When schedules needed to be adjusted, our employees stepped up.
The result was a completed Cummins NT855 zero-hour remanufacture that was delivered on time and within budget.
Built Around the Customer’s Requirements
Projects like this demonstrate what custom remanufacturing means at Melton Industries. Not every engine can simply be replaced with a current production model, particularly when dealing with legacy industrial equipment and specialized applications.
Our job is to evaluate the customer’s requirements and develop a solution around the application.
With more than 75 years of diesel engine experience, Melton Industries has the capabilities to support legacy diesel engines, industrial engines, fire pump engines, power generation equipment, marine applications, and other specialized diesel-powered systems.
Most importantly, this project was a team effort. We are proud of the Melton employees who stepped up across multiple departments to meet an exceptionally demanding schedule without compromising the quality of the finished product.
Another legacy engine returned to service. Another custom solution delivered.
